📌 HNTAS and the risk of delay
The Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme (HNTAS) is intended to provide the sector with much-needed consistency: clear technical standards, measurable performance benchmarks, and a framework to protect consumers.

If its delivery has slipped, here are my thoughts on how that affects the industry:
Credibility
Repeated delays risk weakening trust in the regulatory process and raise questions about whether industry frameworks can be delivered on time.
Investment uncertainty
Developers and funders rely on clear standards. Without them, confidence in heat networks may temporarily falter.
Consumer detriment
Households connected to heat networks remain without the protections and performance assurances that HNTAS is designed to deliver
Missed improvements
The sector could lose valuable time in standardising best practice, reducing operational costs, and improving efficiency.
HNTAS was always going to be a critical piece of the wider regulatory puzzle for heat networks. Any delay, real or perceived, risks slowing momentum just when the industry needs clarity and trust most.
